Turrialba Volcano Emitting More Gases After Costa Rica Earthquake - The effects of the Costa Rica earthquake are being seen in the activities of the Costa Rica volcanoes. One of the effects is that more gas is being emitted.

TROPICAL STORMS -
In the Eastern Pacific -
- Tropical storm Olivia was located approximately 900 mi [1445 km] WSW of the southern tip of Baja California. Expected to become a remnant low today.

In the Western Pacific -
Typhoon 22w (Prapiroon) was located approximately 585 nm south-southeast of Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan.

A new tropical cyclone entered the Philippine vicinity Monday morning and was named “Nina” (international name: Prapiroon).

HEALTH THREATS -

Fungal meningitis cases soar; death toll reaches 8 - The number of patients sickened in a fungal meningitis outbreak linked to steroid injections for back pain more than doubled over the weekend, with 105 infections reported so far, including 3 more deaths, raising the toll to 8, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a health alert.
